My skincare routine to get rid of POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION + simple explanation (1 Viewer)

My skincare routine to get rid of POST-INFLAMMATORY HYPERPIGMENTATION + simple explanation
Growing up, I always had perfectly clear skin, but everything changed during my sophomore year of high school when I started breaking out severely. From that point until the end of my junior year, I dealt with severe acne that made me incredibly insecure. Now, entering my sophomore year of college, the active breakouts are gone, but I am still dealing with the leftover hurdle: stubborn PIE (Post-Inflammatory Erythema).

A lot of people confuse general hyperpigmentation, PIH, and PIE. If you want to treat your skin effectively, you have to know exactly what you are dealing with.

Hyperpigmentation is simply when parts of your skin become darker than other parts because of the overproduction of melanin
1778938968916

PIH stands for post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation which again means it is a melanin issue. It leaves behind brown/dark spots after a pimple heals. However, this is a lot more common in darker skin tones (can happen even if you have a lighter skin tone though).

PIE stands for post-inflammatory erythema. Unlike PIH, this is not an issue with melanin. Rather, it is a vascular issue. PIE leaves pink, red, or purple marks that are caused by damaged capillaries (microscopic blood vessels). This is what we are targeting here, although it could work just as well for PIH.

Now for the routine itself

This routine was heavily inspired by Clav’s old skincare routine, but I tweaked it specifically to target PIE rather than active, inflammatory acne.

AM:

  • Rinse & Dry Face
In the morning, make sure you DO NOT cleanse . Overcleansing can strip your body of its essential ceramides which can increase inflammation. As for the drying portion, this is pretty self explanatory, but make sure you dry face with a clean towel or let air dry

  • Niacinamide + Zinc
Niacinamide is an effective anti-inflammatory agent. PIE is just oxidized blood trapped within a localized area which is inflamed. Niacinamide calms the blood vessel walls preventing them from dilatation, while Zinc promotes the healing of any residual tissue damage.

https://theordinary.com/en-us/niacinamide-10-zinc-1-serum-100436.html

  • Mist + Hyaluronic Acid
The appearance of PIE appears much worse when the skin is dehydrated. The plumping up of the stratum corneum (outer layer of your skin) through deep hydration leads to a masking effect, which makes the appearance of redness appear much less noticeable right away. Hydration is also crucial for cellular turnover and tissue repair.

https://theordinary.com/en-us/hyaluronic-acid-2-b5-serum-with-ceramides-100637.html

  • Caffeinated Eye Cream
I just have this in the routine to aid with slight eye bags. However, if you have recessed infraorbitals, then this will not work for you (a big reason why a lot of people say it is cope).

https://theordinary.com/en-au/caffeine-solution-5-egcg-eye-serum-100412.html

  • Moisturizer
If your skin is working hard to fight off irritants, the time it takes for you to heal your blood vessels from PIE will increase. Look for moisturizers that contain ceramides, Cica, or allantoin to help soothe any redness caused by the damaged blood vessels.

https://based.com/products/daily-skincare-duo

  • Tinted SPF
Protects your skin from UV rays that will stimulate angiogenesis (creation of more weak, leaky blood vessels), which makes PIE darker and permanent. (You don’t need tinted)

PM:

  • Double Cleanse
First, use an oil-based cleanser to break down sebum, SPF, and daily pollutants, followed by a water-based cleanser to wash it all away. Unlike the morning, a thorough cleanse at night is essential to clear the canvas so your active ingredients can actually penetrate the skin.

https://based.com/products/daily-skincare-duo

  • Dry Face

  • Azelaic Acid
Acts as a potent anti-inflammatory and inhibits hyperpigmentation. By reducing the swelling and calming the blood vessels, it actively fades the stubborn red and pink marks left behind by acne.

https://theordinary.com/en-us/azelaic-acid-suspension-10-exfoliator-100407.html

  • Moisturizer
Locks in hydration and supports skin barrier while asleep.

https://based.com/products/daily-skincare-duo

  • Sub Q GHK-Cuk
Increases my collagen production. It helps repair damaged tissue and fade my PIE or any uneven pigmentation. (I take 2.5mg every night before bed)

Topical products only do half the work. To see actual results, you need to optimize your daily habits.
  • Change Pillowcase Every 3 Nights: Reduces the buildup of bacteria, oils, and dead skin cells contacting your face
  • Clean Diet (No Processed Sugars): Sugar spikes insulin and triggers systemic inflammation
  • Dermastamping (Once a Month): Do not use a derma roller. Rollers enter and exit the skin at an angle, creating micro-tears and scratching the tissue. A derma stamp goes straight down, creating clean micro-channels that stimulate collagen production and skin remodeling. (will leave your skin red and inflamed for about 24 hours)
    - Forehead
    Depth: 1.0mm
    - Left Side of Face Depth: 1.5mm (Zygos/Cheekbone area: 1.0mm)
    - Bottom of Face Depth: 1.0mm (Avoid lips entirely)
    - Right Side of Face Depth: 1.5mm (Zygos/Cheekbone area: 1.0mm)
    - Eyebrows, Under Eyes, and Nose Depth: 0.5mm
  • 4 Liters of Water Daily: Keeps the skin hydrated from the inside out (aids cellular turnover)
  • Good Sleep: Deep sleep is when your body undergoes optimal tissue repair
  • Sauna: Flushes out the pores and boosts healthy blood flow

Ik that sub q GHK may not be as good as topical since it is not localized. I've been thinking abt adding in topical GHK paired with derma stamping. Do you think that is a good idea? The reason why I am not hopping on accutane is because I don't have any active acne and the PIE that I have is not bad at all anymore (fully gets covered by tinted SPF)

Microdose Accutane is gold standard for collagen, not just acne you could use topical ghk cu paired with derma stamping as well tho

I am currently in Greece for 2 months and brought 3 viles of GHK with me. I will only get through 2 viles with the sub q version, but as I was doing research, it was a toss up as to if I can use the raw powder form to create my own topical. I would pair it with another bottle of hyaluronic acid from The Ordinary as well as an anti bacterial.

People were also split as to if you should apply it right after derma stamping or if you should wait 48 hours before putting anything on your face (other than hyaluronic acid).

I also only derma stamp once a month as seen inside my thread, but some people recommend to derma stamp once every one to two weeks (I feel as if that is too much damage to the skin and it won't let it go through the repairing process).

He’s not roiding tho so I doubt it would be worth to suppress his test just for collagen benefits

Cleansing too much is def bad because it strips away natural oils and lipids. Doing this breaks down your skin's protective barrier. This is why I don't cleanse in the morning. However, double cleansing at night is optimal to make sure I am working on a clean face with nothing from the day (bacteria or anything I was wearing like tinted SPF).

Don't double cleanse in the morning. Max just cleanse once in the morning and double at night (although I think it is still best to skip morning entirely)

not to mention but out of all AAS halo is the most potent inhibitor of human 11B-HSD2 and can raise your local tissue cortisol though the fucking roof, cortisol being the most catabolic hormone in your body, so the whole theory is counter producing, also the studies on halo are stuff from the 1970s.
