Now imma give u a TLDR about how to steer a boat and also how a sailboat acc looks like cause yeah I forgor to do that in the first place
3. Anatomy of a Sailboat
And NO I will NOT try and find an English one LIVE WITH IT (imma translate tho)
3.1 The Smaller parts
3.1.1 The Burgee
That's the flag that sits on top and indicates where wind is going and if there's any wind
3.1.2 Mainsail head
It's the smaller part on the top of the main sail
3.1.3 The Mainsail
The big ass sail so it's js the sail u see LOL
3.1.4 The Leech
It's the back edge of the mainsail
3.1.5 The Luff
it's the front edge of the sail that hugs the mast
3.1.6 The foot
It's the "unterliek" it's the bottom part of the sail
3.1.7 The Mainsail tack
The lower front corner of the mainsail that points to the mast
3.1.8 The Clew
Lower back corner of the sail where the sail gets attached
3.1.9 The Batten pocket
These are pockets where you put in wooden rods so that ur sail doesn't flop around like me after doing a goonathon to Avril
3.1.10 The Sail window
If the sail has to be in ur face to get good propulsion there's a window so that u don't js fool around without seeing shit
3.1.11 The FOCK (Jib)
A small sail that is attached to the mast that helps u control and steer the boat better or get more propulsion
3.2 Standing rigging
The ropes that support the mast that it doesn't flop around
3.2.1 The Forestay
That's the rope that goes from the top of the mast to the front end of the boat and also holds the fock sail
3.2.2 The Spreader
The small lil horizontal rope on the mast that goes outward this gives the mast more horizontal support and that it doesnt go side to side
3.2.3 The Turnbuckle
That's a small device that just fastens the ropes and makes em tighter (like Avril)
3.2.4 The Mast fitting
The metal beating that holds the ropes and shit in place tightly and get mounted
3.2.5 The Mast Base
The Base of the Mast DUH where it sits in the boat and is anchored
3.2.6 The Trapeze Wire
The wire that holds the crew that leans outward if your boat doesn't have a deep keel or its stormy as fuck or whatever fucks ur boats balance to balance the boat
3.3 The Control Ropes
The rooes that actually control ur sail
3.3.1 The Mainsheet Rope
That rope controls ur main sail and makes u make an angle so that's the real shit that u can control
3.3.2 The Boom vang
That controls ur sail shape and how tight ur leech is and the boom is the wooden horizontal beam going from the mast and the boom vang can pull it down a bit to control the shape
3.3.3 The Jib downhaul
Same as the boom vang but it pulls the Jib down and controls its shape
3.3.4 The jib sail cleat
That just fastens the Jib in place so ur ass doesn't have to hold it like a retard
3.4 The actual steering
3.4.1 The Tiller
It's the wooden bar that goes to the rudder so that u don't get elbow arthritis steering the boat
3.4.2 The tiller extension
If everyone needs to lean out and balance the boat u still gotta steer so u need an extension to grab the Tiller and steer
3.4.3 The rudder head
That's the rudder part that sticks out of the water that connects to the Tiller
3.4.4 The rudder bottom/blade
That's the rudder part that's underwater and actually steers ur boat
3.5 The hull and deck
3.5.1 The Foredeck (dick)
The deck that's in front of the boat
(Super chill to tan on)
3.5.2 The Transom (Trans)
That's the flat part on the boat that js points outward like a lil wall
3.5.3 The Centerboard
That's a retractable fin that prevents ur boat from just trailing sideways
3.5.4 The Centerboard case
That's the housing for the centerboard fin
3.6 The Deck Hardware
The nuts bolts and gears in ur boat
3.6.1 The traveller
That's a rail that goes across the boat that the Mainsail block slides along and controls the sideways position of the boom
3.6.2 The jib sheet track
That's a rail where the jib can slide along and u can adjust
3.6.3 The cam cleat
That js grabs the ropes tightly (issa spring lock mechanism)[Holy FNAF reference] automatically when u push it in so its not fine tuning but rather a lock that js hold em tightly in place
3.6.4 The lean out straps
These are js straps to put ur feet in when u lean out so u js don't fall over board
That took long to write ngl my thumbs hurt now
Here uhh a video for other entertainment purposes:
