In this one I'm going to give an example of how a social engineering attack typically looks like so that you can detect it and better protect yourself against cybercime. I'm sharing the 2 common phishing methods/ templates in the cybercrime world.

Most of the content here is taken from ethical social-engineering pentesting team course.
This post is based on publicly available research, similar to what you might see shared by security researchers on social media. None of this violates the law,
It is not intended to encourage or enable criminal activity, but to explain how illegal actions are carried out so that we can better protect ourselves.

Social Engineering Templates for Marketplace Scams: Prepayment and Shipping Methods​

Below are two common methods, Prepayment-Focused (using services like Interac for Canada) and Shipping-Focused
(using services like Packeta for Hungary) with detailed message templates.

Your role as a social engineer is to adapt these
templates to the language of the target country (e.g., English for Canada, Hungarian for Hungary) and use them to obtain
the victim's email for phishing purposes. Ready-made templates for all possible seller responses are provided here, and your
task is to tailor them to the specific platform and language.

Prepayment-Focused Method (e.g., Interac in Canada)

This method involves convincing the seller that you will prepay for the item via a service like Interac, then
requesting their email to send a phishing link disguised as a payment confirmation.

Templates for Prepayment Method:
Greeting​

Hi, is this still available?​

Express Interest in Prepayment​

I want to pay using Interac. Will that be convenient for you?​

When You're "Not in Town"​

I won’t be in town until a couple of days from now and would like to pay now so no one else gets ahead of me.​

Request Email and Address​

I need your email and address to fill in the box to send the money.​

or​

Okay, give me your email and address.​

Notify About Upcoming Transfer​

Okay, thanks, I’ll let you know when I’m done. It’ll just take a few minutes. ​

After Sending Phishing Email​

I paid. Check your email; you should get a letter from Interac.​

If They Say the Email Didn’t Arrive​

Maybe it went to spam? Can you check again?​

If They Ignore Your Message​

Did you receive the email? I already made the transfer, and the money was sent.​

If the Phishing Link Fails​

Sent from the mobile version of Interac Payment #2463897. The item has been paid successfully! Forward the
link to receive the funds to the seller. To be safe, don’t share the link with anyone else! Link:

If They Insist on Cash Only​

I understand, but I can’t withdraw money from an ATM because I have very little time after work. Can I transfer
money to you via Interac, and you could leave me a wrapped parcel outside your house?​

If They Agree to Leave Item Without Prepayment​

I’ll feel much better if I pay now to make sure no one picks it up. ​

If Auto-Acceptance Fails​

Maybe your auto-acceptance didn’t work because I have a business account connected? Can you check again?​

If They Ask Why Banking Details Are Required​

This is standard with Interac; without auto-acceptance, a bank login is required to ensure an unauthorized person doesn’t receive the transfer.​

Shipping-Focused Method (e.g., Packeta in Hungary)
This method involves convincing the seller to use a shipping service like Packeta, requesting their email to send
a phishing link disguised as a shipping or payment confirmation.


Templates for Shipping Method:

Inquire About Shipping​

Can I request Packeta shipping? Of course, I’ll cover the shipping costs.​

Request Email​

Okay. If you’re not busy now, I can arrange the shipping and pay for the item right away! Can I have your email address? Packeta also requires your first name, last name, and phone number.​

After Victim Provides Email​

Done. Please check your email. Follow the instructions in the support chat. You should receive the funds via the
shipping page. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks!​

Immediately follow with:​

The email you received should contain further instructions and a button to confirm the transaction. [INCLUDE
GENERATED PAYMENT CONFIRMATION FROM TEAM]​

Additional nudge:​

You should receive an email from the shipping service; please check it.​

If They Ask How Packeta Shipping Works​

Packeta shipping works like this: I pay for the item and shipping on the Packeta website, then Packeta sends
you a form to accept the payment and complete the transaction. After the payment is received and the
transaction is confirmed, Packeta will contact you by phone.​

If They Refuse Direct Bank Transfers​

I don’t transfer money directly as it’s not secure. I pay for the item and shipping via the Packeta mobile app,
and you’ll get an email. You’ll receive the funds through the Packeta website, as per their policy. It’s safer than
a direct transfer to an account.​

If They Ask About Funds​

My money is held in the service’s account; I’ve paid for the item and shipping. You’ll receive the funds via the
website, and I want everything documented. That’s the service’s policy.​

If They Ask to Call​

I’m currently working and can’t talk. I work late and need to get home to my kids. Can I pay and arrange
Packeta shipping now? After successful payment, the courier will contact you to discuss details.​

If They Say They Have No Time to Wait for a Courier​

Don’t worry, Packeta has specialized couriers who work Monday to Friday until 7:00 PM and Saturday until 3:00
PM. I’ve used this service before, and it’s very convenient.​

If They Want to Cancel After Payment​

I’ve already paid for the item. I can’t cancel the deal. If you don’t accept, I’ll have to wait 14 days for a refund. I
don’t want that. Please understand. I assure you there won’t be any issues. I’ve used this site many times, and
everything was fine.​

If They Enter Fake Data Multiple Times​

Packeta’s customer service contacted me and said the login details you provided were incorrect. They suggest
double-checking the details or comparing them with your bank documents.​

About Courier and Payment Details​

Once the money arrives in your bank account, a courier will call you. You provide the courier with your address
and a convenient time for the meeting.​

About Item Packaging​

I’ll hire a specialized courier. The courier will handle the packaging, so don’t worry. The item’s size and weight
don’t matter. ​

If They Suggest a Personal Meeting or Delivery​

Unfortunately, I can’t come to pick up the item as I’m very busy with work. I can arrange for the item to be
delivered directly to my door, which would be convenient for both of us.​

If They Want to Arrange Shipping Themselves​

It’s more convenient for me to pay you and arrange Packeta shipping because I get a great discount (30%) on
shipping. My husband and I have used this service before, and we love how fast and secure the couriers
are. ​

These 2 are most popular methods so it would be much more effective if, as the social engineer, you use your own unique one.​

shouldn't that pay more than stealing bank acc of average normies & easy to launder than money mules system intact?

That works too, but pay is the same unless you're talented & educated enough to pull that off. The method I mentioned can be pulled off by some 80-IQ guy with no mental energy or tech knowledge. You need tech knowledge to run your domain, extension , tele bots etc. & high SE skills for that crypto campaign one, you can't pull it off otherwise. Tho if one has high-IQ & SE talent+experience, they can move on to that method & earn a lot more, I talked about that in my previous post.

It's not that complicated tbh, but depends on what you know already, obviously if you're clueless it's not as easy as running a vps domain & some MITM reverse proxy. But if you know about coding n stuff it's easy.
Alternatively, you can just buy it off ofc.
It's more effective and convenient than phishing them or osint, by far.
