For someone who is not religious, what reasons might there be to have children? Beyond biological instinct or the expectation that it might bring personal happiness, what motivations or values could lead a person to choose to reproduce? Is there even a valid reason?

This requires a psychological answer and needs to be approached in a better way

But if there isn’t really a reason, why would you be concerned with ascending? And if you are religious, then ascending shouldn’t be your number one priority, it should be securing a good afterlife.
Even if you never experience romance or having children, wouldn’t that simply mean missing out on just another experience? You likely won’t go skydiving or take part in many other activities either, are you stressed about that?

self satisfaction and ego boosts.

i dont care about having children; but romance with a lifelong partner is not a temporary high you'd get from skydiving. it is lifelong. the point is experiencing stuff in this period. so the list of experiences in number in that time frame is way more.

Lifelong or temporary it is just self pleasure at the end of the day.

Because that biological instinct is a very strong one and for most people, living a fulfilling life without children is not quite possible. If you think you can live a fulfilling life without children, then do it. There doesnt need to be a valid reason that people need to have children, strong biological instinct to spread your genes is enough.
