I never really looked into the topic of rubber bands until i was given them. At first i thought that it would pull my lower jaw forward, however i doubt there are downsides to it since i havent heard much. I can't solely rely off tiktok info so i figured id ask on here. Does it recess your upper jaw / maxilla?

Solution
They barely make any skeletal changes at all (source) and mainly only cause dentoalveolar (teeth and alveolar bone) changes to fix malocclusions (source) so the teeth move more within the bone than the bone does itself.

There are orthodontic methods to fix malocclusion through dentoalveolar and mandibular movement (MA Treatment) but thats more than just elastics. To quote the study: "Although Class II correction was mainly due to dentoalveolar changes, a skeletal component was observed with MA treatment" (study)
[class 2 malocclusion is basically an overbite]

Depends on what type of bite you have when you have an overbite i think it pulls it foward
