I thought I'd open up about a topic I've been longing to discuss: IQ.

I've seen many normies and users on multiple forums using IQ as a way to define someone's cognitive abilities. The thing they don't understand is that IQ is only a narrow measurement of someone's capabilities.

The majority of IQ tests only take into consideration certain qualities, such as:

Verbal/Math skills (Depends on whether you've been placed into a good education system)

Logical Reasoning

Pattern recognition

When there's so much more to it. IQ is only a measurement of how well you'll succeed in the modern School system. They're useful but not entirely accurate.

It also hugely depends on the person's neurology; people who tend to suffer from neurological disorders, like Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.

People who would be classed as neurodivergent struggle with timed tasks, overthinking (due to stress overload), and working memory. All cultivate difficulty in understanding.

It's also difficult to measure someone's overall reasoning by just a 30-minute questionnaire. The way intelligence would be properly measured would have to be observed over a long period of time, which, as you expect, would be difficult and expensive.

What actually matters when it comes to intelligence is your ability to retain memory and your emotional insight.

High iq isn’t needed for a successful life, you just need to not have low iq.
"High IQ" doesn't always mean that you're going to have a successful career. In many instances, people who score low on IQ tests do far better compared to those who score high.

my dad always talked about how its impossible to correctly measure everyones iq because others think differently, and/or are smarter in other fields that mightve not shown up in an iq test or something

i dont remember much of what he said tbh because he only had those deep convos when i was like 7💔

So your argument is that IQ is overrated because being neurotypical matters more???
even that's debatable,
and falls apart when you compare equivalent percentiles.
A 140 IQ can compensate for neurodivergence (ND), while a 60 IQ NT is functionally subhuman
average-IQ NTs aren't that bad.

Even if NT traits edged out IQ, NDs are a tiny population fraction anyway.
being "more NT" doesn't matter much over just not being turbo autist, not the same for IQ.
IQ remains one of the most critical traits and the best predictor of success.
Your argument is shit because
That's like saying height doesn't matter in basketball because some 7'5" guy is missing a hand.
Above all, IQ is the undisputed gold standard for measuring intelligence, since it underpins every thought you have.

It's moreso about EQ and conscientiousness which the majority middle class possess, and they will be the ones judging your intelligence.

This is a fair point, but who does it matter to? In the world we live in today, what the IQ test measures for is also what you will need to succeed (most of the time), as you mentioned, without proper reasoning skills for example you are much less likely to be employed, at least at a well-paying job. I personally agree that this shouldn’t necessarily be the case, but for now IQ is certainly useful. Good post anyhow brah❤️.
