If I’m being honest, I don’t think I was ever completely “normal” in school. I think there was always something a bit different about my behavior because of my neurodivergence, but it wasn’t really a big problem socially. Even if I acted that way, I had other things I was good at—appearance, intelligence, and academics. So even if people occasionally pointed out my “weirdness,” it wasn’t what defined me the most.
If I could give you any advice, it would be to stand out in something—something you’re so good at that it overshadows the “weird” traits people talk about. And of course, if you don’t feel comfortable with certain behaviors, you can try to tone them down a bit, but at the same time, remember the goal is to feel comfortable with yourself. I’m still working on that too.

For the past 4 years, I’ve felt different from everyone else, and I notice it every day. Back then it felt bad, but I always had this need to “ascend.” I had two options: either feel bad about being different, or become better than them so I wouldn’t care what they think.
In the end, I managed to do it, and no matter how neurodivergent I am or how “weird” people might consider me, I was able to enjoy the life I wanted (friends, a girlfriend, admiration at school, and all of that). So don’t feel bad about being different—focus on improving so you stop caring about what others think, and focus on building the life you want.
