Hyperphantasia is essentially the mirror image of aphantasia, allowing one to create highly realistic mental imagery, essentially eliminating the errors that would be commonly created by the naturally wandering mind.
Often associated with traits such as photographic memory and high focus, disabilities such as OCD and autism are opposed to aphantasia, which is often associated with ADHD and other attention deficit-related disorders.
This led me to believe that, based on this description, people with hyperphantasia would logically be positively affected by their mental variation. Due to the ability to focus more on topics, remember key details, and recall information better, people with hyperphantasia should be genetically predisposed to being more intelligent and having a higher IQ than others, especially compared to people with aphantasia.
Yet the opposite is true; hyperphantasia is one of the biggest mental drawbacks that a person can have while at such a low level of neurodivergence.
Hyperphantasia allows these people to imagine and remember much more effectively, but this effectiveness is unable to be stopped. These people internalize almost all stimuli given to them, essentially overloading their brains before they’ve even left their houses and are forced to sift through them all in order to access information that they actually need in settings like school or work.
The ability of the average person to forget insignificant events is the greatest thing that people with hyperphantasia have lost, which is also why those with aphantasia tend to have higher IQs on average than those with hyperphantasia, who tend to stick closer to the global average.
It is also much harder for them to get over trauma, as they truly feel what they are imagining. Traumatic memories can put these people directly back into the situation triggering anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. While people with aphantasia are often less affected.
Because of their hyper-imaginative capabilities, many of them are also artists and are drawn to it as a way of expressing themselves and the vivid images in their minds, but many end up unsuccessful and unable to do anything with their talent, as they cannot meet the academic requirements or aren’t able to get a job with an art degree.
They also get addicted to more hard drugs on average due to their capability to “feel” it more; because of their ability to visualize and create images, the effects of hallucinogens are much more clear.
Hyperphantasia, by description, should be the myostatin deficiency of the mind but commonly restricts people with the variation far more than those with aphantasia.
Thank you for reading; take this as whatever you’d like, whether as proof that a primal lifestyle devoid of modern conditions, as lifefuel that hard work is a natural component of human life, or whatever else.
