well as someone who's dealt with similar situation i would recommend never to remind them about it, ive seen people breakdown after reminding them about thier parents/relatives.
make sure to distract him because he is most likely stressing about it and be with him all the time to comfort him & and listen to what he's saying if he's trynna open up.

This stuff annoys me. No, not the thread, your freind and all. Just people dying, im too aspie to comfort people when tragedy hits, i usually just leave the room or block someone if they keep talking about it

try to distract him, get him outside. I dealt with some similar shit with my best friend this yr and he's doing much better now. Just never outright mention his mom passing to him.
