Theory FPSL Feline Craniofacial Rating System (Phenotypes And Rating)
FPSL Definitive Feline Craniofacial Attractiveness Framework
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

WHAT IS FPSL?
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

PSL Chart applied to domestic cat craniofacial
geometry. Differnet Data, Same base ratings. Different
species.

Before anyone says it yes this is serious. Feline
facial morphology is actually MORE measurable than
human ratios because breed standards give us a documented
ideal ratios to measure against. We have a reference ceiling.
PSL doesn't have that. In some ways FPSL is
more rigorous than the original PSL chart.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
RATED METRICS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Canthal Tilt (CT)
Bizygomatic to Bigonial Ratio (BBR)
Total Facial Width to Height Ratio (TFWHR)
Facial Thirds Distribution
Intercanthal Distance (ICD)
Nose Height to Width Ratio (NHWR)
Philtrum to Facial Length Ratio (PFL)
Ear Set Ratio (ESR) + Ear Flare Angle (EFA)
Symmetry Score (SS)

All measurements assume full skeletal maturity.
Ragdolls finish developing
until 3-4 years. Rating a young cat is like rating
a 12 year old against 20 year olds. Don't do it.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
THE SCALE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

1.0 – 3.9 | Low Tier Feline
"Craniofacial malforminity. Structural mayhem."

4.0 – 5.9 | Mid Tier Feline
"Genetically present. Architecturally
Average."

6.0 – 7.9 | High Tier Feline
"Mogger. Noticeable in

8.0 – 9.4 | Feline Lite
"Feliene Biased is shown. Usually given more perks like extra treats ."

10.0 | True Feline
"Total Perfection. Theoretically derivable.

DEFINITIVE BREED CHART
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Each breed rated on:
CT = Canthal Tilt
BBR = Bizygomatic to Bigonial Ratio
TF = Total Face To Width To Height Ratio
SYM = Symmetry potential
OVR = Overall FPSL ceiling

Higher = better on all metrics except EFA
which is sex dependent.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
TRUE FELINE TIER | 10.0
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

No living feline documented
Theoretical ceiling only.
All metrics simultaneously hit.
Bilateral symmetry index at 0%.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
FELINE LITE TIER | 8.0 – 9.4
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

RAGDOLL
CT ████████████ Exceptional (+32° male avg)
BBR ███████████░ Dominant (89.9% male avg)
TF ████████████ Optimal (0.87 male avg)
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 9.1 | Female 8.8
Notes: Strongest documented dimorphism of any
domestic breed. Jowl development pushes male
ceiling.

MAINE COON
CT █████████░░░ Strong
BBR ██████████░░ High, slightly softer than Ragdoll
TF ████████████ Optimal
SYM ██████████░░ High
OVR Male 8.9 | Female 8.6
Notes: Strong BBR offset by weaker average CT.
Late bloomer full structure at 3-4yr.
Second largest domestic breed, frame enhances
perceived facial mass.

BENGAL
CT ████████████ Exceptional
BBR █████████░░░ Good
TF ███████████░ Strong
SYM ████████████ Excellent wildcat heritage
OVR Male 8.7 | Female 8.5
Notes: Highest average CT of any domestic breed.
Wildcat facial geometry carries over strongly.
Spotted coat creates optical illusion of higher
cheekbone definition.

BIRMAN
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR █████████░░░ Good
TF ████████████ Optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 8.6 | Female 8.7
Notes: One of few breeds where female ceiling
exceeds male. Exceptionally balanced facial thirds.
Colour point contrast frames eye area strongly.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT
CT █████████░░░ Strong
BBR ██████████░░ High
TF ███████████░ Strong
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 8.5 | Female 8.3
Notes: Strong structural base. CT slightly below
Bengal and Ragdoll average. Dense coat ruff adds
significant frame bonus (+0.2 applied).

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
HIGH TIER FELINE | 6.0 – 7.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

SIAMESE
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate — narrow jaw structure
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 8.4 | Female 8.5
Notes: CT strength significantly offset by narrow
BBR. Elongated facial structure pulls TFWHR below
optimal range. Symmetry is a genuine strength.
Upper end of High Tier, approaches Feline Lite
in elite specimens.

PERSIAN
CT ███████░░░░░ Moderate
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good — approaches TFWHR risk zone
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 8.2 | Female 8.4
Notes: Correct type Persian is genuinely aesthetic.
Round, broad skull with strong cheekbone width.
Must be correct type any brachycephalic
compression triggers immediate deduction of FPSL.
Female ceiling exceeds male in this breed.

TURKISH ANGORA
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ███████░░░░░ Moderate
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 7.8 | Female 7.9
Notes: Elegant structure but lacks the facial mass
of higher tier breeds. Symmetry is a consistent
strength. Coat frame bonus applicable.

ABYSSINIAN
CT ████████████ Exceptional
BBR ███████░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.6 | Female 7.5
Notes: Extremely high CT is the standout metric.
Let down by narrow facial structure and low BBR.
Would rank higher if facial mass matched eye area
quality. Classic high CT, low BBR tradeoff.

SCOTTISH FOLD
CT ██████░░░░░░ Neutral to slightly positive
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.2 | Female 7.3
Notes: Folded ear is a structural mutation that
eliminates EFA as a metric entirely neither
penalized nor rewarded. Round skull scores well
on BBR and TFWHR. CT is the limiting factor.
Ethical concerns around the fold mutation noted
but not factored into morphometric score.

RUSSIAN BLUE
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.5 | Female 7.4
Notes: Consistently solid across all metrics
without excelling in any single one. The
definition of structurally solvent. Dense
short coat does not provide ruff frame bonus.

BRITISH SHORTHAIR
CT ███████░░░░░ Moderate
BBR █████████░░░ Strong
TF ████████░░░░ Good approaches unideal zone
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 7.4 | Female 7.3
Notes: Strong BBR is the headline metric.
Round square structure keeps TFWHR near upper
boundary. CT is the consistent weak point.
Plush coat provides minor frame enhancement.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
MID TIER FELINE | 4.0 – 5.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

DOMESTIC SHORTHAIR
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████░░░░ Good
OVR Male 7.2 | Female 7.0
Notes: Hard genetic ceiling. No breed program
means no directional selection pressure on
facial geometry. Best specimens approach base
of High Tier. Average specimen is solidly Mid.

DOMESTIC LONGHAIR
CT ██████░░░░░░ Neutral
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ███████░░░░░ Moderate
OVR Male 6.8 | Female 6.7
Notes: Coat frame bonus occasionally pushes
individual specimens into low High Tier.
Structurally identical ceiling to DSH.

MIXED BREED (AVERAGE)
CT █████░░░░░░░ Weak to neutral
BBR █████░░░░░░░ Low to moderate
TF ██████░░░░░░ Variable
SYM ███████░░░░░ Moderate
OVR Male 5.5 | Female 5.4
Notes: High variance. Heterosis occasionally
produces outlier specimens in the 6.5–7.0 range.
Cannot be predicted. Must be assessed individually.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
LOW TIER FELINE | 1.0 – 3.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

EXTREME PERSIAN
CT ████░░░░░░░░ Flat to negative
BBR ████░░░░░░░░ Structurally compromised
TF ████░░░░░░░░ Deep in risk zone
SYM ████████░░░░ Good only strong metric
OVR Male 5.5 | Female 5.5
Notes: The brachycephalic penalty is structural
and non negotiable. Aesthetics built on a broken
foundation do not rate. Respiratory compromise
is an automatic hard cap regardless of individual
metric performance. Symmetry cannot save this.

SEVERELY INBRED SPECIMEN (ANY BREED)
CT Variable usually penalized by asymmetry
BBR Variable
TF Variable
SYM ██░░░░░░░░░░ Low inbreeding depression
OVR Capped at 3.5 regardless of other metrics
Notes: Inbreeding coefficient above 25% triggers
automatic asymmetry penalty. Structural expression
of recessive deleterious alleles compounds this.
No breed ceiling applies floor is the operative
constraint.

FERAL / TRAUMA CASES
OVR Rated individually. Healed facial trauma,
asymmetric bone remodeling and nutritional
stunting during growth phase all apply
hard penalties. Assessed case by case.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

DIMORPHISM REFERENCE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Male and female cats are not rated on the same
axis. A female 8.5 is not being compared to a
male 8.5. Each is rated against their own
sex-specific breed ideal.

MALE primary indicators:
Tight ear set (EFA 40–50°)
Dominant BBR — jaw squareness
Midface mass concentration
Jowl development (intact only)
Steep canthal tilt

FEMALE primary indicators:
Wide ear flare (EFA 70–80°+)
Lower third elongation
Balanced facial thirds
Wider mouth-to-nose ratio
Refined muzzle

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Best Phenotype Of All cats
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

OVERALL #1 MALE RAGDOLL
FPSL Ceiling: 9.1
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

No other domestic breed simultaneously achieves:

Highest documented BBR (89.9%)
squarest jaw-to-cheekbone ratio of any breed

Strongest CT outside of Bengal
(+32° male average)

Optimal TFWHR (0.87)
broad, compact facial mass in the sweet spot

Largest single dimorphic signal in any breed
(EFA gap of 35°)

Jowl development on intact males
the only breed where the CFA standard
explicitly allows for this feature

Every other breed trades off somewhere.
Bengal has better CT but weaker BBR.
Maine Coon has comparable size but softer CT.
Ragdoll is the only breed where CT, BBR,
TFWHR and facial thirds all peak together.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

BEST FPSL Scoring Breed
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

#1 Male Ragdoll 9.1 Champion-line,
fully mature

#2 Male Maine Coon 8.9 Loses to Ragdoll on CT
and jowl expression

#3 Male Bengal 8.7 Best CT of any breed,
loses on BBR and mass

#4 Female Birman 8.7 Highest female ceiling,
exceptional thirds
balance

#5 Male Birman 8.6 Strong symmetry,
loses on CT

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

CLOSEST TO TRUE FELINE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A champion line intact male Ragdoll at full
maturity (4 years) with:

» Confirmed low asymmetry index
» Full jowl expression
» Complete ruff development
» All modifiers applied

is the closest any living feline gets
to the theoretical 10 on the FPSL chart.

TF ████████████ Optimal
SYM ██████████░░ High
OVR Male 8.9 | Female 8.6
Notes: Strong BBR offset by weaker average CT.
Late bloomer full structure at 3-4yr.
Second largest domestic breed, frame enhances
perceived facial mass.

BENGAL
CT ████████████ Exceptional
BBR █████████░░░ Good
TF ███████████░ Strong
SYM ████████████ Excellent wildcat heritage
OVR Male 8.7 | Female 8.5
Notes: Highest average CT of any domestic breed.
Wildcat facial geometry carries over strongly.
Spotted coat creates optical illusion of higher
cheekbone definition.

BIRMAN
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR █████████░░░ Good
TF ████████████ Optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 8.6 | Female 8.7
Notes: One of few breeds where female ceiling
exceeds male. Exceptionally balanced facial thirds.
Colour point contrast frames eye area strongly.

NORWEGIAN FOREST CAT
CT █████████░░░ Strong
BBR ██████████░░ High
TF ███████████░ Strong
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 8.5 | Female 8.3
Notes: Strong structural base. CT slightly below
Bengal and Ragdoll average. Dense coat ruff adds
significant frame bonus (+0.2 applied).

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
HIGH TIER FELINE | 6.0 – 7.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

SIAMESE
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate — narrow jaw structure
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 8.4 | Female 8.5
Notes: CT strength significantly offset by narrow
BBR. Elongated facial structure pulls TFWHR below
optimal range. Symmetry is a genuine strength.
Upper end of High Tier, approaches Feline Lite
in elite specimens.

PERSIAN
CT ███████░░░░░ Moderate
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good — approaches TFWHR risk zone
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 8.2 | Female 8.4
Notes: Correct type Persian is genuinely aesthetic.
Round, broad skull with strong cheekbone width.
Must be correct type any brachycephalic
compression triggers immediate deduction of FPSL.
Female ceiling exceeds male in this breed.

TURKISH ANGORA
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ███████░░░░░ Moderate
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 7.8 | Female 7.9
Notes: Elegant structure but lacks the facial mass
of higher tier breeds. Symmetry is a consistent
strength. Coat frame bonus applicable.

ABYSSINIAN
CT ████████████ Exceptional
BBR ███████░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.6 | Female 7.5
Notes: Extremely high CT is the standout metric.
Let down by narrow facial structure and low BBR.
Would rank higher if facial mass matched eye area
quality. Classic high CT, low BBR tradeoff.

SCOTTISH FOLD
CT ██████░░░░░░ Neutral to slightly positive
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.2 | Female 7.3
Notes: Folded ear is a structural mutation that
eliminates EFA as a metric entirely neither
penalized nor rewarded. Round skull scores well
on BBR and TFWHR. CT is the limiting factor.
Ethical concerns around the fold mutation noted
but not factored into morphometric score.

RUSSIAN BLUE
CT ████████░░░░ Good
BBR ████████░░░░ Good
TF ████████░░░░ Good
SYM ████████████ Excellent
OVR Male 7.5 | Female 7.4
Notes: Consistently solid across all metrics
without excelling in any single one. The
definition of structurally solvent. Dense
short coat does not provide ruff frame bonus.

BRITISH SHORTHAIR
CT ███████░░░░░ Moderate
BBR █████████░░░ Strong
TF ████████░░░░ Good approaches unideal zone
SYM ███████████░ Very high
OVR Male 7.4 | Female 7.3
Notes: Strong BBR is the headline metric.
Round square structure keeps TFWHR near upper
boundary. CT is the consistent weak point.
Plush coat provides minor frame enhancement.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
MID TIER FELINE | 4.0 – 5.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

DOMESTIC SHORTHAIR
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ████████░░░░ Good
OVR Male 7.2 | Female 7.0
Notes: Hard genetic ceiling. No breed program
means no directional selection pressure on
facial geometry. Best specimens approach base
of High Tier. Average specimen is solidly Mid.

DOMESTIC LONGHAIR
CT ██████░░░░░░ Neutral
BBR ██████░░░░░░ Moderate
TF ███████░░░░░ Below optimal
SYM ███████░░░░░ Moderate
OVR Male 6.8 | Female 6.7
Notes: Coat frame bonus occasionally pushes
individual specimens into low High Tier.
Structurally identical ceiling to DSH.

MIXED BREED (AVERAGE)
CT █████░░░░░░░ Weak to neutral
BBR █████░░░░░░░ Low to moderate
TF ██████░░░░░░ Variable
SYM ███████░░░░░ Moderate
OVR Male 5.5 | Female 5.4
Notes: High variance. Heterosis occasionally
produces outlier specimens in the 6.5–7.0 range.
Cannot be predicted. Must be assessed individually.

──────────────────────────────────────────────────
LOW TIER FELINE | 1.0 – 3.9
──────────────────────────────────────────────────

EXTREME PERSIAN
CT ████░░░░░░░░ Flat to negative
BBR ████░░░░░░░░ Structurally compromised
TF ████░░░░░░░░ Deep in risk zone
SYM ████████░░░░ Good only strong metric
OVR Male 5.5 | Female 5.5
Notes: The brachycephalic penalty is structural
and non negotiable. Aesthetics built on a broken
foundation do not rate. Respiratory compromise
is an automatic hard cap regardless of individual
metric performance. Symmetry cannot save this.

SEVERELY INBRED SPECIMEN (ANY BREED)
CT Variable usually penalized by asymmetry
BBR Variable
TF Variable
SYM ██░░░░░░░░░░ Low inbreeding depression
OVR Capped at 3.5 regardless of other metrics
Notes: Inbreeding coefficient above 25% triggers
automatic asymmetry penalty. Structural expression
of recessive deleterious alleles compounds this.
No breed ceiling applies floor is the operative
constraint.

FERAL / TRAUMA CASES
OVR Rated individually. Healed facial trauma,
asymmetric bone remodeling and nutritional
stunting during growth phase all apply
hard penalties. Assessed case by case.

DIMORPHISM REFERENCE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Male and female cats are not rated on the same
axis. A female 8.5 is not being compared to a
male 8.5. Each is rated against their own
sex-specific breed ideal.

MALE primary indicators:
Tight ear set (EFA 40–50°)
Dominant BBR — jaw squareness
Midface mass concentration
Jowl development (intact only)
Steep canthal tilt

FEMALE primary indicators:
Wide ear flare (EFA 70–80°+)
Lower third elongation
Balanced facial thirds
Wider mouth-to-nose ratio
Refined muzzle

Best Phenotype Of All cats
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

OVERALL #1 MALE RAGDOLL
FPSL Ceiling: 9.1
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

No other domestic breed simultaneously achieves:

Highest documented BBR (89.9%)
squarest jaw-to-cheekbone ratio of any breed

Strongest CT outside of Bengal
(+32° male average)

Optimal TFWHR (0.87)
broad, compact facial mass in the sweet spot

Largest single dimorphic signal in any breed
(EFA gap of 35°)

Jowl development on intact males
the only breed where the CFA standard
explicitly allows for this feature

Every other breed trades off somewhere.
Bengal has better CT but weaker BBR.
Maine Coon has comparable size but softer CT.
Ragdoll is the only breed where CT, BBR,
TFWHR and facial thirds all peak together.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

BEST FPSL Scoring Breed
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

#1 Male Ragdoll 9.1 Champion-line,
fully mature

#2 Male Maine Coon 8.9 Loses to Ragdoll on CT
and jowl expression

#3 Male Bengal 8.7 Best CT of any breed,
loses on BBR and mass

#4 Female Birman 8.7 Highest female ceiling,
exceptional thirds
balance

#5 Male Birman 8.6 Strong symmetry,
loses on CT

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

CLOSEST TO TRUE FELINE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

A champion line intact male Ragdoll at full
maturity (4 years) with:

» Confirmed low asymmetry index
» Full jowl expression
» Complete ruff development
» All modifiers applied

is the closest any living feline gets
to the theoretical 10 on the FPSL chart.
