okay lets start this off. what are forehead presses? well a forehead press was made by a tiktokker called frwjr, or nick moggtar. to do a forehead press, you need to have your back against the wall, and push your head forward while your knuckle pushes your head back. nick claims that this will make you feel your scm (sternocleidomasteoid) aka make it pop out.

now before i disprove it, ill say it does kinda work. forehead presses are isometric neck flexion, which are used to imrpove neck stability after rehab and physical therapy, and to train your neck without joint movement. it doesnt permanently change your jawline or really much, just makes you feel your jaw muscles.

analyzing what happens during forehead presses
while doing forehead presses, it applies pressure and does isometric neck flexion which we just talked about, and it contracts the scm which makes it temporarily more visible, aka activating it which is not growing it or helping it. the scm activates during head rotation, neck flexion, or resistance. the muscle becomes more defined or tigthens when you do either 3, and turning your head hard will make your neck look similar to doing forehead presses. which is normal muscle psychiology, not special activation. matter of fact, the knuckle pressing part is stupid. all it does is add external resistance, and maybe a small headache and you can get the same activation by doing fucking anything with your neck. it doesnt make the muscle thicker, and in the end the most youll get is better control in your neck letting you flex your scm, kinda like flexing your biceps and this hes basically just a second hullo because youll only be able to do it for a short amount of time, and besides neck muscles dont like ego lifting so theyll fatigue if you do it alot.

why did nick think this worked?
most likely the guy when to the gym, and after losing bf he found out he won the luck lottery and decided to make bullshit to find a reason as to why it worked. and if you say he probably did it during puberty, first of all he claimed he did it after puberty, and second puberty increases muscle mass which already proves my point because he looks pretty young and definetly did all this during puberty, and most exercises cannot target the neck and change muscle tendons.

conclusion
SCM popping out = temporary contraction
visibilty ≠ muscle growth
he is doing isometric neck flexion
genetics are what caused this to happen to nick.

this is a really solid breakdown, and I think you hit all the key points. Forehead presses are basically just isometric neck flexion, so yeah, they activate the SCM, but they don’t actually grow the muscle or change your jawline. The temporary “pop” people feel is just the muscle contracting, nothing more.

The knuckle part seems completely unnecessary, and honestly, you could get the same activation with almost any neck movement. Nick probably just experienced the effects of puberty and genetics, then tried to explain it as some secret technique. Bottom line: it’s not a magic trick, just regular muscle activation.

I appreciate how you broke it down scientifically; this should clear up a lot of misconceptions people have from TikTok.
