I’m 16 years and 11 months old and currently have braces. My teeth align well and my bite is fine, but my concern is not just dental alignment — it’s facial structure and overall harmony.

I feel that my lower jaw is narrow and that my midface lacks forward growth, specifically in the maxilla and zygomatic (cheekbone) area, which affects my facial balance. I’m interested in orthopedic and orthodontic appliances because I want more anterior (forward) orbital-maxillary growth and better proportional harmony between the lower jaw, maxilla, and zygomas.

My concern is that my orthodontic treatment is focused only on aligning teeth, while I believe facial structure and forward growth should also be considered. I want opinions on appliances that could influence maxillary width, mandibular width, and forward facial growth rather than only dental alignment.

Expanders and related appliances I’m referring to include:

RPE
Hyrax
Haas
MARPE
SARPE
Slow Palatal Expander
Quad-Helix
W-Arch
Bi-Helix
Schwarz Appliance (Upper)
Schwarz Appliance (Lower)
Lower Lingual Arch
Lip Bumper
Facemask
Reverse-Pull Headgear
High-Pull Headgear
Cervical-Pull Headgear
Combination Headgear
Twin Block
Herbst Appliance
Frankel Appliance
