If you're not familiar with it, this rule suggests that geniuses in any field whether in sports like football, programming, or even e-sports have spent a total of 10,000 hours practicing to become truly talented in that field

No, it's based on nothing
depends on your own IQ, neuroplasticity and other things

Didn’t Magnus carlsen just get chess from the start?
Dude was playing gms at 12.
Time can most definitely progress you in something, but talent comes naturally a lot of the time

Yeah ofcourse thats his natural talent, he would beat his 12 year old self because of the time he has spent studying chess

If you dont have talent 10,000 hours can make you really good at something
If you have talent 10,000 hours can make you the best at something

Obviously. He was set higher than anybody else. Putting time into something will pretty much always make you improve

I think ops argument is that, will someone with limited natural talent be able to compete with magnus after 10,000 hours.
being good at chess isnt iq dependent unless your severly low iq, most is pattern recognition and active recall on theory. Hikaru is Average Iq

Yes and no.

If you have talent yes

If you dont have. Forget it

Even cristiano Ronaldo say if you dont have talent forget it

But perhaps in some areas you may become an expert

It’s a complex topic, and the 10,000-hour rule applies to many aspects of our lives. There are fields that strictly require talent, while in others, talent is merely a helping factor.

One scientist argues that we all possess talents, but they vary from one person to another.

Take video games as an example, specifically Fortnite: if you want to become a professional player on the level of Ninja and others, you need to put in 10,000 hours give or take depends on your own natural talent

yes like 10 000 hours will make someone able to surpass natural talent
hard work is mostly cope
No it isn't every athlete or artist or musician had to work hard to do it it's not all easy even if they were genetically gifted there's many boxers that are genetically gifted but get beat by guys that have worse genetics
