How can bee venom be utilised for stopping hair loss and promoting hair growth.

I stumbled upon a social media post, this guy went out and placed angry bees on his peaks for the purpose of getting stung (obviously). This intrigued me so i thought I'd go do my own research ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ

Bee venom directly inhibits local 5a-reductase ( the enzyme that converts testosterone to DHT (1 of the main causes for hair loss)).

This happens through a peptide found in bee vemom called mellitin .
(then enhanced by PLA2)

mellitin
mellitin is insanely and underrattedly useful for the context of local hair growth and loss reduction. But how?

Along with inhibiting 5a-reductase it-
increases igfr sensitivity
upregulates VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor )
Upregulates fgf-2 and -7 (fibroblast growth)
ASCs release (cell migration and proliferation, endothelial growth, osteogenesis)

Delays catagen entry (regression)
prolongs anagen duration (growth)

PLA2
PLA2 (found to be 12% of bee venom) plays a gaint role in how bioactive mellitin is and how cells react to it

5-ar is meberane-associated, meaning intacellular penetration is needed for inhibition. This is exactly what PLA2 helps with, it expands what was a narrow doorway into intracullar level, improving mellitin access.

PLA2 is the reason you get a bump after a bee sting, it causes an inflammatory response. Which increases blood flow and growth factor locally.

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”

Now im not telling you to go get stung bees.
This mechanism can be triggered with bee venom and a derma planner (1mm)

Bee venom can be rather expensive ($300+)
Who says you can't go collect it yourself ?

Get a glass cup with a cheese cloth over it
stun bees by hitting/smoking them
Place agitated be on cloth (holding both wings)
Done - although this would be a long process and you would likely get stung

โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”โ€”
In reality practice this would be rather unpractical or expensive.

Fun idea tho โค๏ธ

if it works its still cheaper than going to turkey
No it's not

it's 100x more expensive lol

not happening anytime soon
maybe after some decades when they can seperate the pro-hair compound from bee venom or synthesize it

everything costs you min 3k pretty sure you could get a ton of this for 3k
but i agree if it worked now we would already know about it balding is probably the thing most researched in terms of looks

If you're talking about with stem cells and stuff, it'll definitely cost way more

if you're just talking about venom, it won't even be a substitute for hair transplant
just for minoxidil

and minox/duta are way cheaper than bee venom
