Leforts (explained like to a toddler)
The Le Fort Osteotomy is a surgery that refers in general to fixing midface fractures ( involving maxilla and surrounding structures)
• Lefort 1: Very Safe ( $15,000–$50,000 (avg. ~$28,000)
• Positions the upper jaw anywhere within three dimensions (upper/backward/vertically) to reshape the face and improve/fix the bite ( e.g; Underbite, Open bite or Sleep apnea etc etc...)
+A lot of surgeons can do it
+Shortest recovery of all LFs (obv)
-Not ideal for severe midface issues
- requires braces (1y +/-)
• Lefort 2: Mid/Normal Safe ($30,000–$60,000 (avg. ~$41,000)
• Involves the movement of the nose and upper jaw together aka lengthening of the nose along with movement of the upper jaw. (Addresses broader midface deformities such as flat face /flat cheeks / nasal issues / complex bite / improves orbitals symetry and overall facial balance ).
One of the rarer osteotomies because it isn’t required as often (only in 2-5% of unique cases)!
+works in cases of severe midface deformations
-High risk of asymetry
-less common so fewer surgeons will do it
- risk of eye/nerve complications
-Longer recovery (more swellings)
• Lefort 3: Least Safe ($40,000–$90,000+ (avg. ~$64,000)
• Extreme procedure simply designed to move the entire face forward including proportions of eye sockets (purpose of achieving a more harmonious and symmetrical appearance). Essentially detaching the face from the skull base to reposition it. Typically used in the treatment of mid-face problems and serious deficiencies. Fixes the same stuff as Lefort 2 (+reccsesed zygos) but it's made for more extreme cases such a severe deformities and for example: post car/motorbike accidents as full facial reconstruction surgery aka “all in, nothing to lose” card ( only in <0.5-1% of unique cases)
+Dramatic correction for severe craniofacial conditions
+Improves breathing, vision, and facial projection in one go
+Life-changing for syndromic patients (aka gandy heaven for those who didint get botched)
-Most extreme and brutal procedure
-Good luck finding surgeon who will agree to do this bhai

- have all the “-” that were mentioned in Lefort 2 (with higher risks)
- absolutely devastating post recovery
-Terrible swellings
-Most invasive and highest risks (Leaks / Infections)
-extended hospital stay/recovery
-stories of people who got botched didn't make it to the forums
-jfl at anyone who thinks he needs it
• Total Estimated Cost in America (Including Anesthesia, Stay, etc.)
• Possible extra costs: Liquid Diet for Weeks and Potential Revisions, Therapy etc...mirin hard if u didn't DNR'ed
