lisdexamfetamine vs IR amphetamine (2 Viewers)

In this thread im gonna compare the effects and benefits between lisdexamfetamine (vyvanse, tyvense,elvanse) and amphetamine (adderal)

Pharmacology​

Main distinction between the two is that lisdexamfetamine is a prodrug, after oral ingestion it is broken down by enzymatic hydrolysis which is able to convert it into lysine (which we can ignore) and dexamphetamine, this conversion usually takes 1-2 hours, the downsides to this is that the availibilty of the drug is constricted to ur red blood cell enzyme capacity rather than your gastrointestine absorption.

compared to this, IR amphetamines are already pharmacologically active and enter systemic circulation directly following absorption. this difference in time means that vyvanse reaches peak amphet levels in your plasma after 3-4ish hours after oral ingestion and you get less of a "peak" but a better experience in focus and concentration overall , IR's typically reach there peak after 1-2 hours, with a bigger crash after.

overall lisdex and regular IR's deliver the same active compound and work molecules but they differ in how fast those systems are activated


also while researching this i found out that if your piss is more acidic it can blunt and make the drug less effective bc it doesnt get absorbed back into the kidneys, i think this is only the case for the base amphetamines, so stay hydrated boyos

im gonna look into interactions with other drugs to enhance the effects of amphetamines
