In my opinion martial arts used to actually be "martial" meaning for war or combat for survival alot of Martial arts don't practice the original version like karate for example used to have groin strikes neck strikes same with judo even sumo used to have kicks and strikes mostly to the belly and knees
Heres a story of ancient sumo to really show how even the Martial arts they are non deadly now where back then
Nomi no Sukune and Taima no Kehaya fought in 23 BCE in front of the Emperor, following Kehaya's boast that he was the strongest man "under the heavens"
Nomi no Sukune defeated Kehaya by breaking his ribs with a kick and his back with a second stomp, which led to Kehaya's death
Same with muay thai even though this sport is still brutal but it's an sanitized version of muay boron an martial art used during wars in ancient Thailand and surrounding nations it was actually used the battlefield historical records prove this Imo mma and combat sports in general have watered down martial arts as whole fighters also are not martial artists but prize fighters for fuck sake the ufc doesn't even allow elbow strikes
