I totally understand the appeal in having a dog, and theres nothing wrong in loving dogs. Certain people however genuinely value dogs over humans, and don't understand that this makes them a shitty, self centered, borderline sociopathic asshole. They believe that dogs are somehow these entirely "pure and loving creatures" although they act mostly on instinct just like any other animal, and they assign an entire human-like personality to their dogs.
I don't personally like dogs that much, but if i ever express that to someone who is one of these people, they look at me like i killed and raped their entire extended family. Where i understand however, that they are shallow assholes, is when their dog dies. They get sad initially, but buy a new dog. This new dog serves the same role in their life, and the dead one is now long forgotten as he's replaced in an instant. These bums don't give a fuck about dogs. They just enjoy having a "friend" who will always be there and always need them. Therefore because of the value they give to their personal life, they place them above ACTUAL HUMANS.

Following orders shouldn't even count as intelligence in my book, like wow ok your dog can sit on command like a bitch ass nigga. Pigs are smarter than dogs. Pigs can actually learn to solve puzzles, they have greater memory than dogs, and they even have higher social intelligence. Yet eating pig is completely morally ok for a dog lover, but they regard eating dog as a crime GENUINELY on the same level as pedophilia/murder.
