A common misconception in people is that, they believe playing chess, practicing it actually increases iq. However, is that the case?
Without a doubt, chess is a great practice to develop your problem solving skills as you have to think deeply for your opponents next move. Similarly, critical thinking is improved as well.
To answer the question, chess skills cannot be implied in other areas of life since Gobet and Campitelli (2006) found that while chess players excel in chess-related tasks, their performance in non-chess-related tasks did not significantly differ from non-players, and that the benefits decline over time unless regular practice is maintained.
