It's a rubber band that pulls on your teeth to apply pressure and tension to straighten the teeth faster and more efficiently I presume

Anyways, No elastics don’t recess your jaw.
They can move teeth and posture the bite, but they don’t grow bone forward in adults.

I'm pretty sure it depends on the issue thats being fixed. From my understanding they can either help correct overbites or underbites

the point of braces is to align ur teeth how tf is that gonna recess you? and yes if you have bites its gonna fix that and bring the jaw abit forward
