BOTB Selection Criteria
To make it into the Best of the Best (BOTB) section, your informational thread needs to meet the following criteria. These ensure your work stands out for quality, clarity, and effort.
Additional Notes on BOTB Selection:
The reasons for rejection aren’t limited to the criteria listed above. In rare cases, I may reject a thread for reasons outside the rubric, these cases will be noted and this post updated accordingly.
My decisions on BOTB selection are final. Meeting the listed requirements doesn’t automatically guarantee inclusion, and decisions cannot be disputed.
A thread can be added to the Best of the Best section if it’s currently the strongest piece on its topic. However, it may later be removed if:
In such cases, the thread may move to the "Former BOTB / Good Threads" Megathread, except for those containing significant misinformation (which will be excluded entirely).
If your thread is replaced or removed for quality reasons, you’re always welcome to update and resubmit an improved version to reclaim BOTB status.
To make it into the Best of the Best (BOTB) section, your informational thread needs to meet the following criteria. These ensure your work stands out for quality, clarity, and effort.
RELEVANCE
Your thread must be educational or instructional in nature.
It should fully deliver on what the title promises.
The thread must be the best available on that topic; not a weaker version of what already exists in BOTB.
Choose topics that are both substantial and relevant. Threads focusing on tiny subtopics of existing BOTB entries usually won’t qualify.
The content shouldn’t be mostly filler or “common-sense” information. Readers should genuinely learn something new.
EFFORT
Your work should clearly reflect deep thought and time investment.
Threads under 500 words generally don’t make the cut.
EVIDENCE AND QUALITY
Explain your topic thoroughly and accurately.
Demonstrate real understanding , shallow or surface-level takes won’t qualify.
Use credible sources. For factual or data-driven topics, follow the evidence hierarchy (e.g., peer-reviewed research over low-quality sources).
All sources must be cited directly alongside the claims they support, rather than listed in bulk at the end of the thread.
For subjective topics, sound reasoning and general consensus carry more weight than individual opinions or weak evidence (such as anonymous comments or small animal studies).
PRESENTATION
Write cleanly and professionally grammar, flow, and punctuation matter.
Structure your post with clear sections, headings, or a mini table of contents. Ideally, use RGB gradient BBCode headings for a polished presentation.
If needed, explain what the topic is and why it matters.
Keep the language simple, clear, and accessible. Define any unfamiliar terms properly.
ORIGINALITY
Most of the writing must be your own.
AI-generated text, direct copy-paste, or content heavily lifted from other sources won’t qualify.
If you use AI as a helper to format your thread, you must refine the draft thoroughly;
remove filler, polish the tone, and ensure it reads naturally and aesthetically.
